Lea County Museum

The county seat of Lea, Lovington became town in 1908 when settlers from east of the Texas line homesteaded the western edges of the Llano Estacado in New Mexico Territory. New Mexico became a state in 1912. Lea became a county in 1917. The Lea County Museum was created by the Lovington Women's Club in 1960 when they purchased the Commercial Hotel, which was to be razed.

Old Jail Museum

This sandstone jail was built in 1882 in Palo Pinto. The Old Jail anchors a growing complex of historic log cabins and frontier buildings that demonstrate life in the olden days. Every building is filled with local artifacts. The jail was vacated in 1941 when the jail was moved to the top floor of new courthouse. The Palo Pinto Historical Association restored the building in 1968 to house the museum.
